Canadian Temporary Visa

Canada is the second-largest country, that has no shortage of breath-taking natural wonders and cosmopolitan cities for the immigrants who wish to settle in Canada. Canada is a perfect place for people who love nature to have a vacation and settlement. Canada welcomes millions of immigrants every year for purpose of visiting, studying, or working through a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) apart from permanent residence to enter Canada. Canadian Temporary Visa is from immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to enter Canada.

What is Temporary Resident Visa (TRV)?

TRV is a counterfoil document issued by the Canadian government. This is also referred to as an entry visa or visitor visa. This document allows foreign nationals to travel to Canada temporarily. It is an official document that will be placed in the passport to show that the concerned person has met all the requirements for admission in Canada. The duration of the visa processing takes from two to three business weeks based on the reason for the visit.

The immigrant or the foreign nationals can apply online on their own through an MYCIC account or they can approach a top immigration consultant for the process of application in a professional way. Why? It is best to move through an immigration consultant because they have in-depth knowledge about the process. Moreover, while applying on our own, there are chances for an error on the application. If there is an error the application will be rejected and cannot re-apply for the next 5 years.

Document Requirements for Temporary Resident Visa

There are many requirements for TRV the basic requirements, are the following:

  • The foreign national or the immigrant should have a valid travel document (passport).
  • They should have good health.
  • They should not have any criminal or immigration-related convictions.
  • They should prove that they have ties to their home country and should prove that they will return to their home country.
  • They should prove that they will leave Canada once their purpose ends.
  • They should prove that they have enough money for their stay in the country.

Types of Temporary Resident Visa

  1. Single-entry Visa
  2. Multiple-entry visa

A single-entry visa

This visa allows foreign nationals to enter Canada during their validity. This visa will be issued to the foreign national six months before their expected date of travel.

Multiple-entry visa

This visa allows the foreign national to re-enter Canada repeatedly during their validity. They must arrive in Canada on or before the date of expiry of their TRV. The validity for multiple entry visas is valid for up to 10 years/till the validity of the Passport.

Categories of Canadian Temporary Visa

1. Canada Student Visa

This permit allows a foreign national to study in Canada in a specific Canadian educational institution in a specific program.

2. Canada Work Visa

A work visa allows a foreign national to work in a Canadian company with an employment offer but the work permit will be valid only temporarily.

3. Canada Visitor Visa

This visa permits the immigrant to visit Canada either as a tourist or visitor. Through this, they can stay in Canada for 6 months as a visitor.

4. Parents and Grandparents Super Visa

The super visa allows the parents or grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to stay in Canada for up to 24 months without renewal of their status.

5. Canada Diplomatic and Official visa

This visa category is created for diplomats and officials who wish to visit Canada on official duties and responsibilities. This is officially created by the government of Canada.

6. Canada Business Visa

This visa is for business people. The business people who wish to visit Canada to do business with the companies or for a normal business visit. Depending upon the reason for the business visit the immigrant needs to possess either an eTA or business visitor visa for their business trip.

Based on the reason for their business visit, the immigrant needs to show some documents as proof. If their visit on a business purpose to meet a company; then they need to show a letter of invitation by the business partner, who is settled in Canada.

Moreover, the trip should not extend more than 6 months. If the visit is for business activities and not entering into the Canadian labour market, then need to show proof of established business outside Canada. Furthermore, as per their requirements, they also need to submit police clearance and medical clearance certificates.

7. Caregiver Visa

This visa is for immigrants who intend to work as a caregiver for children, or seniors or people with disabilities. Those people can apply through this visa under the Canadian Caregiver program.

1. Study Visa

If a foreign national or immigrant intends to study in Canada, he/she can apply through a study permit Canada. Through this permit, the student can study in Canada, at an approved institute for the duration of their program. This is more like legitimate permission to the immigrants or foreign nationals to study in Canada either a short-term course or vocational training, academic degree, diploma course, or professional training that has a duration of at least 6 months. To apply for this, the immigrant must apply to a designated institution and should obtain a letter of acceptance from them. Once they get their offer letter to study in Canada, they can apply for their Canadian Temporary Visa over there. This Canadian Temporary Visa states that they can remain in Canada till they complete their study.

Eligibility to Study in Canada:

  • The foreign national or immigrant must be accepted by the school, college, university or any other educational institution in Canada.
  • They must prove that they have enough money to pay for their:
  • Tuition fees
  • Living expenses for them and if they accompanied by a family member, they have to look over living expense for them too.
  • They must be a law-abiding citizen without any criminal record.
  • They must have good health and should compete in medical examination.
  • They should prove to the immigration officer they will leave Canada once their authorised stay comes to an end.

Work in Canada as a student

If a foreign national or immigrant enter Canada through any of the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) work programs for students.

A student can work in Canada if their course of study fits in following categories:

  • On-campus without a work permit
  • Off-campus with a work permit
  • In Co-op and Internship programs (here, work experience is part of the curriculum, along with a work permit).

2. Work Visa in Canada

This work visa is for foreign nationals who wish to work in Canada temporarily. The foreign nationals to immigrants are eligible to work in Canada with TRV if they have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer. Foreign nationals can obtain a work permit in Canada in two ways:

  • Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP)
  • The International Mobility Program (IMP).

Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP)

If a foreign national is applying for a work permit through TFWP, then they need to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). The need for the LMIA is why because? Only with this, they are eligible to work in Canada.

International Mobility Program (IMP)

If a foreign national processes their work visa through International Mobility Program, they get a chance to waive off the LMIA certificate. 3. Canada Visitor Visa

A visitor visa means a person who can visit or enter Canada lawfully for a temporary purpose like study, work, or travel who is not a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident.

Canadian visitor visa application holds two-step process: 

1st step: The immigrant or the foreign national must submit their visitor visa application to the responsible Canadian visa office in the country or from the place where they reside. By the time they apply for their application, they need to attend an interview. In the interview, the visa officer will inquire them, regarding their purpose of visit to Canada.
