The Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) have issued a total of 150 invitations to the candidates. The statement of the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism (OIM) states that 100 and 50 invitations were issued under the NLPNP and AIP, respectively. This invitation's issuance has seen a fluctuation with NLPNP, where the invitation count has dropped when compared with earlier draws. Whereas the AIP count remains the same when compared to the previous year. This draw has issued the lowest number of invitations since the province implemented its Expression of Interest for both programs.
The NLPNP has lowered the invitation issuance when compared to the previous draws. While the data says that Newfoundland and Labrador previously issued 300 NLPNP invitations on 10 July 2025, 257 invitations on 24 June 2025 and 351 invitations on 29 May 2025. This clearly indicates that there is a significant drop in the number of invitations in the recent rounds. This highlights that the province is focusing on the specific market needs rather than concentrating on mass intakes. For 2025, the overall number of invitations issued is 1,818 as of till date. Through that, 1,495 invitations are issued through NLPNP, and 323 invitations are issued through AIP. The overall allocation for the AIP in the annual federal allocation is 475, of which 152 places are present for the rest of the year. This eventually indicates the heavy competition in the particular immigration stream.
To apply and get selected for either of the provinces, the candidates must provide an Expression of Interest to the province. Newfoundland and Labrador changed their first-come, first-served model of approach in February 2025. The present approach towards the candidates is, they are selected based on their efficiency to serve the labour market needs and to meet their long-term economic goals. Hence, candidates with years of experience in high-demand skills and who have been employed in the priority sectors are most likely to get the Invitations to Apply. If the candidates get invited, they must submit a formal application for the NLPNP or AIP endorsement application.
Presently, the NLPNP seats of 555 nomination spaces are remaining for this 2025 year. These spaces are out of 2,050 spaces where the invitations were issued in previous nominations. The skilled workers from major sectors like health care, information, communication technology and aquaculture are given priority in the selection process. The added benefit is that the occupations in these priority sectors are exempt from providing the labour market impact assessment and also receive expedited processing. This targeted approach is to fill the skilled talents in the areas of pressing economy and service delivery needs. They also plan to retain the skilled talents in the province and smooth the pathway to PR. The candidates must review the occupation list on the official province website and ensure their EOI express the experience of work aligning to the occupation.
