5 Things to Know Before Moving to Canada as a Permanent Resident

Virat asked this question. Virat is ready to fly to Canada, and his visa filing is almost over. He asked for some tips about Canada from our senior consultant, Rebecca. It’s quite interesting. That’s it! We are ready with the next blog. As a writer, I have included the five things I wish I had known before I moved to Canada as a Permanent Resident.

What’s Inside this Blog?

Canada: Summer vs Winter

Canada has four seasons. You may know that the winter season is freezing in Canada. An unpopular opinion is that the summer season is also extreme. So be prepared for both. As a foreign national, you should be aware of the climate conditions and how to tackle them smartly.

Canada’s peak summer months are June to August. Some regions take a bit more summertime. So, when you prepare with winter jackets, you have to invest in some moisturizers, sunscreens, and so on. If you have any medical condition, have a quick call with your doctor about this.

Dear Newcomers, Do Not Panic

Canada is so welcoming to newcomers. Canada’s settlement services are a boon for first-time visitors in terms of employment assistance, accommodation, and language support.

This is officially supported by IRCC and delivered by approved organizations. Pre-arrival programs are also available. If you are planning to move to Canada, you can check the official site out.

A newcomer can opt for these services during their initial days in Canada:

Is Canada shopping-friendly for Indians?

No! Canada is a bit of an expensive country. Housing, food, and shopping are all expensive.  And literally, you are going to use the Canada to INR calculator every time. So, people who purchase essential items from your homeland will save you thousands.

Is health care really free in Canada?

Not exactly. You might have heard from your friends or relatives that Canada has a free healthcare system. But most of the benefits are for Permanent Residents in Canada or Canadian citizens. The real truth is that Canadian healthcare is publicly funded but not completely free.

Extra tip from the Croyez team

You must buy international insurance with good coverage before flying to Canada because newcomers can’t claim free healthcare only after PR establishment.
